NANO HOUSE
The problem of Dark factories is a has-been unfolded due to the pandemic, bringing issues of illegally low-paid workers to light. Big clothing brands have exploited this open secret, but not for long. Due to textile factories stuffing more workers than the factory could house without social distancing or precautions quarantine lasted longer in the city of Leicester, UK. However, everyone, including the workers, had to bear this cost. This project aims to make an off-grid modular living/working area for these factory workers where people in these difficult times can find a home.
Nano house is built on the concept of folding away things when not in use, like a Chinese fan, or tucked away like a drawer, making space for living and working. The house has an immobile and mobile unit that moves back and forth with the help of a sliding mechanism. The furniture chosen also tuck away, making more room for other things.

Nano house is made for two people to stay at a time. The main living/ working area is 16 m2 in space. The extendable outside area is 12 m2 making the total usable area 28 m2. The mobile unit is made out of CLT and slides back to give extra insulation during winter and can be pulled in the front during rains and provide sheltered seating/working space.

This is an off-grid house. It has fresh and grey water systems, requiring filling and emptying. It uses photo voltaic solar panels for electricity, And for ventilation, it uses an MVHR system. For the bathroom, a decomposing toilet is suggested. All of these things are placed underneath the house.

Nano house has an all wooden structure. The model demonstrates the wooden structure and mobile unit. For exterior cladding grey wood is used.
